Csilla Hegedüs is the President of the Transylvania Trust Foundation, where she has been a major driving force behind the conservation and revitalisation of historic buildings, notably Bánffy Castle, Bonțida. Her leadership within the Built Heritage Conservation Training Centre earned the programme the prestigious Europa Nostra Grand Prize.
Csilla is currently serving as Interim Director General at the Northwest Regional Development Agency, a role she assumed in 2023. Her extensive background in public administration and European project coordination has shaped her into a highly respected figure in cultural and regional development.
Between 2021 and 2023, Csilla held the position of Secretary of State at the Ministry of Investments and European Projects. In this capacity, she contributed significantly to Romania’s engagement with European funds, overseeing important initiatives that enhanced the country’s infrastructure and development through EU-financed programmes. She initiated the Attractive Romania project, which brings together some of the most interesting tourist attractions in Romania into 12 thematic cultural routes.
Prior to this, in 2014, she served as Secretary of State, Minister and Deputy Prime Minister at the Ministry of Culture, where her work focused on cultural policy, heritage preservation and fostering Romania’s cultural ties with the European Union. Earlier in her career, between 2010 and 2012, Csilla acted as a personal advisor to the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, offering expert guidance on matters related to cultural heritage management and national cultural policies.
Beyond her executive roles, Csilla has been actively involved in several key European cultural initiatives. Since 2012, she has served on the European Heritage Label jury, collaborating closely with the European Commissioner for Culture, Education, and Research. In addition, she has acted as a researcher at the European Strategy Research Centre at the University of Public Service in Hungary, where she investigated and published articles on European policies.
Csilla’s professional activities extend to consulting on EU funding for heritage revitalisation projects and managing the implementation of historic building rehabilitation efforts. She has worked with various European institutions, including the Getty Grant Program and the World Monuments Fund, to secure funding and guide large-scale cultural restoration projects. Her expertise has also been recognised by her role as a former member of the European Union’s (DG EAC) and Europa Nostra’s international juries on cultural heritage.
In academia, Csilla has played a pivotal role as director of the Postgraduate course on Historic Building Conservation (currently Training and Professional Development Programme in Built Heritage Conservation and Rehabilitation) at Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, Faculty of History and Philosophy, where she also serves as associate lecturer.
