Architect Nicole Sutton is a lecturer at the Built Heritage Conservation Training of the courses The usage of lime and other historical building materials and The significance of minimal intervention, on-going maintenance and compatibility in techniques and materials and promoting traditional building crafts.


She was born with a passion for architecture and the preservation of historical spaces. She earned her degree in historic urban architecture from New York University, where she studied both in New York and Paris, deepening her knowledge of architectural and urban heritage. At the beginning of her career, in New York, she managed high-quality residential and commercial renovations for Fahey Design Build, focusing on preserving the architectural and interior integrity of historical buildings. Later, she collaborated with Apple’s corporate team, enhancing the company’s flagship stores by integrating modern design into historical urban environments.


In 2013, Nicole pursued a master’s program in historic and sustainable architecture at New York University in London, where she focused on adaptive reuse and the conservation of historical structures. Her academic work culminated in a thesis on the creative reuse of neglected historic spaces. This educational journey laid the foundation for the next steps in her career, gaining her a reputation as a specialist in architectural conservation.


Nicole’s leadership in the field of built heritage protection began to take shape when she joined Malcolm Fryer Architects in London, where she worked as an architect and principal project consultant, overseeing a wide range of projects, from small urban renovations to large- scale developments. Her ability to balance contemporary needs while maintaining the historical integrity of structures earned her numerous awards and industry recognition.

Since 2015, Nicole has been a specialist in historical monuments and an educator at the Built Heritage Conservation Training organized by the Transylvania Trust Foundation in Romania, where, as part of summer programs held at the renowned Bánffy Castle in Bonțida, near Cluj, she contributed to the restoration of the castle complex by educating participants in the philosophy of conservation and traditional building techniques.


Nicole’s career took on a global dimension when she joined the Selina team as development director for Germany and Austria, focusing on the adaptive reuse of historical properties. She managed the transformation of a significant old ski resort in Austria into lively hospitality spaces, blending architectural preservation with modern amenities.


Currently, Nicole holds the position of global director of the real estate development department at Delivery Hero in Berlin. In this role, she leads the strategic development and expansion of a real estate portfolio in over 70 countries, integrating modern technology and innovative design into contemporary and historic spaces. Nicole’s leadership and dedication to preserving architectural history, while simultaneously working on modern development, continues to leave a lasting impact on the industry.
